DPS To Test School Drinking Water For Lead

Denver Public School officials say they are testing drinking water in all school buildings for lead.

In a letter to families, they call the move proactive given news reports about high lead levels in other districts.

"While we do not have evidence at this time that our schools have elevated levels of lead in their water supply, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority," the letter states.

The district will sample water in all fixtures used for drinking in all DPS schools. Pipes in schools built before 1955 will also be tested.

Denver Water expects the analysis to last through the school year.
