Endangered: It's the strictest preservation status the United States gives wildlife. Right now, the West waits to hear whether the greater sage grouse will get that treatment. But what about another species role in nature -- humans? 

John Freemuth is a professor of public policy at Boise State University, who specializes in environmental issues. He spoke with Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner about how factors like human hubris and land use play into the process of listing a species as endangered.
