Fire Destroys Caon City’s Historic DeWeese Lodge

· Apr. 5, 2010, 3:59 pm

Cañon City lost a historic landmark recently when a fire destroyed the DeWeese Lodge. The 100-year-old building was known for its Adirondack-style architecture and a stone fireplace with Native American artifacts and dinosaur bones built into it. The lodge – and the fireplace – were built by Dal DeWeese, a prominent member of Cañon City society at the turn of the last century. Dan Meyers talks to Sue Cochran, a researcher with the Royal Gorge Regional Museum and History Center in Cañon City.
