After Of Montreal's nearly 2 decades together, and with just of a dozen records behind them, frontman Kevin Barnes sought new inspiration for this latest album by temporarily relocating to San Francisco to write the songs. They also adopted a new recording process modeled off of methods typical of the 60s and 70s.
To maintain a level spontaneity and immediacy, most of the tracking was recorded live with the band in the same room on a 24 track tape machine. The result is an inventive offering that sounds simultaneously fresh yet vintage.
