Honoring the illustrious crew of Grammy losers

So I'm honoring the left out, the cast aside, the overlooked artists who have been nominated but come up short over the years that began with the first Grammys in 1959. Certainly the winners have deserved their shiny Victrola awards. Like the Oscars, they've reached the top. But Granny...excuse me...Grammy has a tendency to recognize the hot over the timeless, the flash in the pan over the long distance runner.

I don't want to spoil the show, but just as an example, everybody was all over Blood Sweat and Tears in 1970. As a band they were basically done before the Bicentennial. But that year they won Album of the Year. The losers? Johnny Cash at San Quentin. Crosby Stills & Nash. Abbey Road.

See where I'm going with this? No hard feelings, but Grammy Losers on Retrofit packs a punch and transcends way into the indie rock era. Arcade Fire's victory in 2011 was a turning of the tide, with a history of bands like Radiohead, REM, and even Prince getting the shaft. Speaking of Shaft, Isaac Hayes lost to Carole King in '72. Right on.
