Colorado musicians, filmmakers, comedians invade SXSW 2014

Colorado will be well represented at this month's SXSW in Austin. At last count, nearly 50 bands, solo artists, and DJs are scheduled to perform at one or more shows.

Thirteen Colorado acts have been selected for the official SXSW showcase and there are many unofficial parties that will celebrate our local artists too.

Artist roster for the Official Showcase:

  • DJ CurlyOne
  • DJ option4
  • Gungor
  • Inner Oceans
  • Little Fyodor
  • Natalie Walker
  • Primitive Man
  • Roo & The Howl
  • Rose Quartz (formerly FLASH/LIGHTS)
  • StaG
  • Tennis
  • Wheelchair Sports Camp
  • You Me & Apollo

The difference between "official" and "unofficial" showcase is simply that the official bands applied and were selected by SXSW to play the conference out of thousands of entries. Unofficial parties are typically thrown by labels, promoters, blogs, etc.

OpenAir is proud to be one of the presenters of the Colorado Music Party along with Spokesbuzz and Reverb. It's a two-day party with 28 bands performing on two stages at Sixth Street venue The 512. The lineup includes many OpenAir favorites:

Other unofficial parties that feature Colorado music will be the Boomtown Backyard Showcase, Red Gorilla Festival, South By Oskar Blues, Reverb, and Illegal Pete's.

How cool is it that The Yawpers will be playing on a riverboat? And that Pizza Time and Lust Cats of the Gutters will be part of the hugely popular Burger Records showcase?

I'm also so excited about the very first official showcase curated by local label Holy Underground!

Aside from Music, SXSW has grown into much more: Comedy, Film, and Interactive.

Local filmmaker Alexandre O. Philippe's latest pop culture flick "Doc of the Dead" is scheduled to make its World Premiere. A few years ago, he made his debut at SXSW with "The People vs. George Lucas."

SXSW Interactive will see Colorado innovators hosting and attending panels.
