See one of the year's most exciting bands, Future Islands, perform live from the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, on Thursday, May 1, at approximately 7 p.m. MST.

OpenAir will be hosting the webcast from NPR Music here on our website. Check back here on Thursday evening for the live stream!

Future Islands is an experimental rock and synthpop group from Baltimore, Maryland. Since a video of the band's thrilling performance on The Late Show With David Letterman went viral in March, the band is quickly becoming one of the year's most exciting live acts, largely for the memorable and inimitable dance moves of frontman Samuel Herring. Herring's unaffected fashion style and sensible haircut, along with his no-nonsense manners, has led some to call him a "normcore" singer, or an exceedingly normal artist. But his performances, and the often heartbreaking but bold songs he sings, are anything but conventional or staid.
