Enter the Hold Steady. For the uninitiated: think Springsteen fronting Social Distortion. The Hold Steady was one of the headliners for this year’s Denver Day of Rock on the 16th Street Mall on May 24.

When the band hit the stage that evening they were already in fifth gear. The opening salvo, "I Hope This Whole Thing Didn’t Frighten You," came from their latest album, "Teeth Dreams." Then came great cuts like "Constructive Summer," "Hot Soft Light," "Massive Nights," "Stuck Between Stations," "Sequestered In Memphis," "Big Cig," and so on.

The only other date that the Hold Steady have on the books for Colorado this summer is The Ride Festival in Telluride. Let’s hope that changes...
