RIYL: Spoon

Members of the Austin, Texas rock n’ roll band Spoon have just put out their eighth studio album “They Want My Soul,” four years after their last record, "Transference."
The new music is great, as demonstrated by standout track "Do You" above. But members of Spoon have their hands in quite a few projects these days as well. If you are a fan, here are a few other bands we recommend you should check out:
1. Divine Fits
Back in 2012, during a hiatus from the band, Spoon frontman Britt Daniel suggested to Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs) that they make some music together. That collaboration took form as Divine Fits, a band whose debut album "Something Called Divine Fits" made it to #54 on The Billboard 200. With smooth, charismatic vocals provided by Britt Daniel, it’s hard to ignore the Spoon influence.
2. Wolf Parade
Canadian indie band Wolf Parade was assembled by former Frog Eyes member Spencer Krug and Divine Fits guitarist Dan Boeckner in 2003 with Arlen Thompson on drums. They channel some early Modest Mouse (Isaac Brock recorded much of “Apologies To The Queen Mary”), but they were still able to make it their own which has made ATTQM a staple of indie music from the last decade.
3. Har Mar Superstar
Spoon’s drummer Jim Eno is also a well known producer (and semiconductor chip designer??) who has had his fingerprints all over some incredible albums in the last few years, including the soul drenched stylings of Sean Tillman, aka Har Mar Superstar. Not many of his projects fall into the same genre as Spoon, but his 2013 soul-revival album "Bye Bye 17" deserves a listen from everyone.
4. Tapes n’ Tapes
Formed in 2003 (a decade after Spoon), Minnesota act Tapes n' Tapes have a similar sound, but they incorporate more of a fast paced folk-polka style that you can also hear in bands like Arcade Fire and Of Monsters and Men.
5. Arctic Monkeys
One might say they’re the slightly more well known British rock counterpart of Spoon, but they’re always good for an upbeat blues-rock jam.
