And, with bands like Alt-J and Mumford and Sons and the Libertines and Palma Violets taking up huge chunks of our music folders, it's clear that a half century in, the British Invasion is still going on.
Those early days were definitely led by the Beatles, but without the Kinks, the Who, the Stones, the Zombies, the Hollies and so many more, the domination would not have been so complete. So many personalities, so many attitudes, and all of them reinventing the American music they combed their hair to.
The '60s Brits reinvented the blues, put rock back on the map, and charged forward with humor and style.
This week on Retrofit (5 p.m. Saturday and 12 noon Sunday) we are on the front row screaming our heads off. The British Invasion is an audio vacation and who knows? You might win a trip to London!
