Court documents from the Aurora theater shooting trial released Wednesday include an FBI transcript between admitted shooter James Holmes and an FBI agent.
Holmes has admitted to killing 12 people and injuring dozens more at a midnight screening in July 2012. But he has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
In the transcript, Holmes explains how he modified his home with incendiary and explosive devices before the attack:
FBI Agent Garrett Gumbinner: Um, so, James, help me here. So the point (inaudible) was (inaudible) diversion. (Inaudible). What...what's gonna set everything off? (inaudible) the trip wire - is that gonna set everything in the apartment off or how...how...how is everything set to...to not so much detonate but start the inferno?

JH: Uh, (inaudible) well the (inaudible) fireworks, remote system, (inaudible) It has all the wires (inaudible) and it's on top of the 'fridge.

In court, testimony Wednesday focused on the gunman’s brief academic career at the University of Colorado Denver.  Professors paint James Holmes as polite, reserved, and brilliant.
