officially breaks ground Thursday on a $60 million arts center. The new facility, which replaces parking lots and three softball fields, will house theater, music, dance and more.

But it's not just for the university; the facility is supposed to serve greater Colorado Springs community too.

"In a single location on the revitalized and vibrant North Nevada corridor, people from throughout this region will soon be able to enjoy both professional and still-developing visual and performing arts in a spectacular setting," UCCS Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak said this week in a statement.

The Center will have space for two theater companies, the UCCS music and theater and dance programs, and additional rehearsal space. The project is scheduled to be completed by early 2018.
