Aspen Needs 1,000 Workers

Aspen Skiing Co. is hiring earlier than ever amid concerns of a slim labor market.

The Aspen Times reports Skico chief human resources officer Jim Laing says finding the 1,000 new hires needed for the coming season won't be easy.

Laing said supply and demand for labor has returned to levels not seen since before 2008.

An early-season job fair on Thursday brought in 75 people, which Laing said is lower than usual, but represents a qualified pool of applicants.

Laing said the company is looking to returning college students, foreign workers, many of whom are on student visas, locals and any other sources that can help the company meet its hiring goal.
