A high school and elementary school in Arvada were placed on lockout after a black bear was seen in the area.
Arvada Police report that the bear has been tranquilized.
Jefferson County schools spokeswoman Michelle Lyng says the bear was spotted Thursday morning, and students at Ralston Valley High School and Meiklejohn Elementary were ordered to stay inside. Lyng says no students were hurt.
The high school has 1,700 students, and the elementary school has 620.
The bear was spotted by a citizen as it wandered toward the school, and police were called.
