The University of Colorado is working to formally re-establish ties with fraternities in Boulder after more than a decade without the organizations on campus.
The Daily Camera reports that fraternities severed ties with the university and formed their own independent governing body after a Chi Psi pledge died from alcohol poisoning in 2004. They left campus after the school asked the chapters to allow supervisors to live in their houses and to delay rush until the spring.
Those requirements are no longer on the table as two fraternity chapters that do not have a presence in Boulder are in talks with the university, rather than the independent Interfraternity Council.
There are 16 fraternity chapters in Boulder that operate independent of CU.
