Schools in a small district east of Colorado Springs are closed because of what officials are calling a "threat of significant violence."

Ellicott School District 22 posted notices of Monday's closure on its website and Facebook page. They said that the district was working with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office to investigate the threat and that parents and students would be updated at the end of the investigation.

The district includes an elementary, middle and a high school as well as a preschool.
