If you're new to the music of the The Coathangers, you don't need to look much further than the title of the trio's fifth studio album -- "Nosebleed Weekend" -- to get an idea of their gritty sound.
Just as bassist Meredith Franco's nose gushes blood on the album cover, the 13 songs of "Nosebleed Weekend" gush with punk guitar, hand-clapping rhythms and catchy hooks. The single "Make It Right" is a fine example of the raw, back-to-basics sound the Atlanta band has captured in its 10-year existence.
The Coathangers perform at the Project Pabst music festival in Denver on May 21. "Nosebleed Weekend" is out now.
