Downtown Aspen Parking Prices Raised By 50 Percent

The cost of parking a vehicle in downtown Aspen is going up.

Parking is going up 50 percent as part of an experiment, with the exception of a parking garage. Four hours of on-street parking will now cost $21, up from $14.

The city hopes to raise a total of $150,000 in parking fees in June, July and August.

According to the Aspen Times, the money will be used to provide free taxi service this summer, a shuttle service, free bike tuning and other benefits for Aspen residents.

The city also is encouraging local workers not to park in the center of town during the busy tourist season.
