City officials in Fort Collins will not pursue ending the city's camping ban after a discussion on homelessness found the option wasn't productive.
The Coloradoan reports that at a City Council meeting Tuesday Deputy City Manager Jeff Mihelich said in cities where homeless people have been allowed to camp in public the policy didn't last long and often police had to sweep the transient camps.
Some council members said it would be better to leave the ban alone and instead focus on reducing homelessness and managing transient issues.
Transients are travelers who move from community to community with a lifestyle of homelessness whereas homeless people consider Fort Collins home but lack housing.
Fort Collins sees an increase in transients in summer.
