Debate: Has Gerrymandering Destroyed The Political Center?

Today's Colorado Matters features a debate focused on this statement: "It is alleged that the practice of gerrymandering -- dividing election districts into units to favor a particular group -- subverts democracy by making congressional districts 'safe' for one party or the other. As a result, only those voting in primaries are in effect choosing the representatives."

The panelists will examine whether primary voters are more extreme in their views, whether the impact of gerrymandering is overblown, and if gerrymandering is a major problem what solutions should be employed.

The debate was produced by Intelligence Squared U.S., a public radio program that features experts debating pressing issues.
