Singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop recently teamed up with Sam Beam of Iron & Wine for the duets album "Love Letter For Fire," which came out last April on Sub Pop Records. That record made a lasting impression on the staff at the Seattle-based indie label, and in November they signed Hoop to a record deal of her own.
Hoop -- who was discovered by Tom Waits while she was working as a nanny for his children -- will release her Sub Pop solo debut "Memories Are Now" on Feb. 10.
Like much of her previous work, the single "The Lost Sky" is plaintive folk that allows room for odd, sometimes ghostly sounds and instruments. Hoop's vocals display a wide range of emotions while her lyrics detail a failed romance.
