Overcoats played one of our favorite OpenAir Sessions last year, so it was a pleasure to welcome the band back to CPR's OpenAir for a Guest DJ session. The songwriting duo of JJ Mitchell and Hana Elion released the debut album "Young" last spring. It caught the attention of many new fans for its sweet harmonies and synth-pop hooks.
Mitchell and Elion started their Guest DJ takeover with some of their own music. They also spoke with Bruce Trujillo about their selections from pop acts Dua Lipa and Coldplay, rock bands Kings of Leon and Middle Kids, and Denver band Tennis, with whom they are currently on tour.

Singer and programmer JJ Mitchell on the significance of "I Don't Believe In Us":
"We wrote it on a day off in Paris. I think we used to romanticize a lot of things in life, and we still do. But understanding that that's a choice to romanticize because there are very hard, difficult parts of life. And we've experienced some disillusionment with some aspects of our lives and being able to write this was very healing for us."
Mitchell on touring with Denver band Tennis:
"They are one of our favorite bands. And I think we learned a lot from them about touring and about partnership in music. It confirmed for us that there's this magic to being a touring band, and to making music with someone who you feel really connected to."
