Event Description

"Seicento marks the 400th anniversary of the music of English composer William Byrd. Byrd, the father of the madrigal, was a composer of the Shakespearean age and considered among the greatest composers of the Renaissance. Seicento presents Byrd's lesser-known choral works, including sacred verse anthems and secular consort songs — music for violas da gamba and voice. These beautiful, rarely heard pieces tell of courtly love, a fable in song, moral temptations, and lament of misspent youth. Seicento is joined by five of the area’s finest gamba players: Hannah Robbins, Zoe Weiss, Sarah Graf, Sarah Biber, and Karl Reque."
