Podcasts are shows you can listen on-demand, when you want, where you want. You can see the list of podcasts Colorado Public Radio offers on our Shows and Podcasts page.
You can also access other NPR-provided podcasts and shows by accessing their podcast directory. Common questions we get about podcasts are below.
What is podcasting?
Podcasting makes an audio file, typically in MP3 format, available online for downloading via an automatic "feed." You can then hear the podcast whenever you want, wherever you are. Some podcasts are shows you hear on the radio, and other times, you can only access these podcasts via a podcast "app" available on your phone or computer.
Do I have to pay to listen to a podcast?
Most podcasts are free because they are available on free podcast apps, such as Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or Radio Public. There are other podcasts apps that are subscription-based, and require a monthly fee.
CPR will always make our podcasts free for you to use, and always available on our website, on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. Podcasts, however, are expensive to produce and serve. To help support these podcasts, you can become a member of Colorado Public Radio.
How do I subscribe to a podcast?
To subscribe for free to a podcast listed in the our directory, click on its name to view a brief description and subscription instructions.
You can also subscribe for free on any of the podcast apps. After you subscribe to a show, and the show releases a new episode, you will be notified and the new episode will automatically be added to your listening feed.
Where do I go to listen to podcasts?
Most phones nowadays come pre-installed with podcasts apps. iPhones have the Apple Podcast app and Android phones have the Google Podcasts app. There are other popular podcasts apps such as Spotify, Radio Public, Stitcher, Pocket Casts, iHeartRadio, or Stitcher. Open the app, search for a show you're looking for and listen to an episode. If you click “Subscribe” to a show, you will have a new episode automatically added to your app when it is released.
