About the Position:
The Music Services Director provides strategic and operational leadership for Indie 102.3’s music services and team. The role combines leadership with hands-on responsibilities, including directing music programming, shaping engaging content across platforms, overseeing playlists and the music library, hosting a few on-air hours each week, and serving as a fill-in host as needed. In this role, you will work closely with internal partners across Events, Digital, Marketing, Fundraising, and Sponsorship to align programming with audience engagement goals. You will also build and maintain relationships with artists, presenters, and venues, and lead the planning and execution of Indie 102.3’s in-house events.
The new hire is expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting - this is not a remote position. A hybrid schedule is available with the expectation that you would be in the office most days of the week.
About You:
You are a collaborative and strategic leader who communicates clearly, listens attentively, and builds strong relationships across teams, departments, and external partners. You proactively plan and execute initiatives while remaining adaptable to evolving priorities and audience needs. You create a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages the growth and development of each team member, recognizing and nurturing individual strengths. You bring high emotional intelligence, understanding your own emotions and thoughtfully navigating interactions with a wide range of personalities. Above all, you are passionate about connecting with audiences through music and fostering a culture of engagement, creativity, and collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years experience related to radio or music services program management, including hosting, music programming, and production.
- At least 3 years of people management experience, with demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, developing staff, and performance management.
- Experience with different radio music formats and audiences.
- Deep knowledge of contemporary music, including emerging artists, genres and trends relevant to Indie/alternative audiences.
- Proficiency with audio automation systems and music programming software (e.g., Zetta, Music Master, WideOrbit, Composer).
- Demonstrated experience creating and implementing strategic plans that optimize music programming services and audience engagement.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working cross-functionally with internal and external teams.
- Evidence of relationship-building with the music community, including artists, venues, presenters, and industry partners.
- Experience with audience analytics and digital platforms, with the ability to interpret data to inform programming decisions and engagement strategies.
Education Equivalency
- A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.
Even if you don’t meet every qualification listed, we’re interested in candidates who can bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the role. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace.
