Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking an Audio Projects Senior Producer.
About the Position:
The Audio Projects Senior Producer will play a crucial part in our daily news operation by producing on-demand audio for CPR’s podcasts. Some of the stories you produce will also air on CPR News and KRCC. You will be essential to expanding CPR coverage to a growing and critical audience segment: people primarily getting their news via their phones and other digital platforms. You’ll take the lead on content for Colorado Today, our short-form daily news podcast launched in March 2025, by pitching stories, collaborating with newsroom colleagues to write and edit scripts, recording, and editing.
You are expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting - this is not a remote position. Please note the schedule for this role is Sunday through Thursday, standard business hours in-office in our downtown newsroom.
About You:
Audio is your passion—you’ve already produced compelling audio news and storytelling and are eager to do more. You bring experience across every stage of production, from researching and pitching stories to mixing, editing, meeting tight deadlines, and doing quality control. You thrive on designing the sound of podcasts and producing stories that reflect what’s happening locally, with a demonstrated interest in daily news. You’re curious, adaptable, and driven by a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that audio projects serve audiences of diverse backgrounds and interests. Collaboration and communication are at the core of how you work: you give and receive feedback well, keep teammates informed, and know how to make quick editorial decisions without losing attention to detail. You’re dedicated to producing high-quality work every day, even as plans shift or news breaks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in journalism and audio production, including some time working on podcasts, including scripting and mixing.
- A strong understanding of journalistic standards and ethics, with demonstrated ability to write clearly and effectively for the ear.
- Proficiency with audio editing software (such as Adobe Audition).
- Familiarity with short-form news production.
- Experience with project or show planning, including navigating deadlines and shifting priorities in response to breaking news.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate with clarity across teams and projects.
- Interest in social media and audience engagement, with the ability to support audience growth through digital platforms.
Education Equivalency:
- A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.
Don't meet every single requirement? Research has shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't perfectly align with every qualification in the job posting, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles with us.
Benefits:
Colorado Public Radio is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that reflects our culture of caring. Our employees have access to: 100 percent employer paid individual health, dental, life, and disability coverage; an outstanding paid family medical leave policy plus paid holidays and a very generous sick, vacation, and personal time off plan; voluntary offerings such as vision; a retirement plan with no waiting or vesting periods; flexible schedules; engagement and development opportunities; and a casual atmosphere.
