A planned rally against racism has been called off at the University of Colorado after African-American students complained they weren't consulted about their plans.
Students in a sociology class called "Whiteness Studies" had planned to protest on the Boulder campus Friday in support of the University of Missouri but later canceled it. An organizer posted an apology on Facebook, saying the students should have contacted the Black Student Alliance and that they had learned a lesson in working with allies.
The alliance's co-president, Paris Ferribee, told the Daily Camera newspaper that racism is a problem on campus and her group has been working on a plan to present to administrators to address it. She says rally organizers used their "white privilege" to oppress and stifle those who are experiencing racism.
