Home prices in the Denver area continue to rise steadily. They saw the third-highest percentage increase in the nation in the last year among major cities.

The S&P Case Schiller Home Price Index shows Denver prices rose almost 10 percent in May compared to the same month last year. That was about twice the national average. Only Portland and Seattle ranked higher.

The monthly increase in May was down slightly from April but still a healthy 1.1 percent. The index for Denver set a record in May. Resale prices on average were about 84 percent higher than the benchmark month of January 2000.
