Imagine hiking a Colorado 14er in a corset and long skirt. Would you do it just for the sake of art? In the 1870s landscape painter Helen Henderson Chain did. She’s among the women who helped lay the foundation for Colorado’s art scene. "Pioneers", a documentary by filmmaker Erika O’Conor looks at these early female Colorado artists. She tells Colorado Matters host Ryan Warner that these women were both activists and artists. The film will be screened this coming weekend at the DocuWest Festival in Denver.
