Colorado has a remarkable music scene that goes well beyond Denver. We visited Fort Collins earlier this year for a one-of-a-kind Super Session. We welcomed bands from Grand Junction and Pueblo to the CPR Performance Studio this year.
And last month Alisha Sweeney took Mile High Noon -- our daily Colorado music program -- on the road to Colorado Springs. We recorded a special episode at the Tim Gill Center For Public Media featuring an in-depth look at the city's music scene.
Blogger and show promoter Heather Powell Browne acted as our guide throughout the hour-long special. She's been a music advocate in Colorado Springs for more than a decade. She gave us a firsthand account of how its D.I.Y. music scene has grown in recent years and its collaborative nature.
This episode of Mile High Noon also features performances from three Colorado Springs artists. Those include:
- Seal Eggs, the solo ambient project of harpist Gwen Wolfenbarger
- Blues singer-songwriter Grant Sabin, a Colorado Springs native who also fronts The Juke Joint Highball
- Spirettes, the new indie rock band from Kate Perdoni (formerly of Eros And The Eschaton).
