Thurston Moore forms new band with My Bloody Valentine and ex-Sonic Youth members
Ex-Sonic Youth singer and guitarist Thurston Moore is back with a new solo album "The Best Day." It will feature collaborations with former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe, and others. This lineup will tour Europe and North America this fall under the name of Thurston Moore Band. "The Best Day" does not yet have an official release date. [via Pitchfork]
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke does surpise DJ set at music festival for 30 people
Radiohead's Thom Yorke played an unannounced DJ set at Leopallooza music festival in Cornwall, England last weekend, according to the London Evening Standard. Yorke hit the stage late on Saturday night to a crowd of about 30 people. Yorke apparently performed an announced DJ set at the previous year's festival as well.
Recordings from Lorde's high school band surface
Grammy-winning singer Lorde played in a band during her high school years called And They Were Masked, and recordings from the project surfaced on her fansite this week. The band formed just a year before Lorde's debut record "Pure Heroine," and its Facebook page cites Fugazi, Massive Attack, and Bloc Party as influences. Stream the two tracks on which Lorde provides vocals, "Sands of John" and "Piece of Mind," via Spin.
