Diane Coffee is the performing moniker of Shaun Fleming, a former Disney voice actor who started his music career as the drummer for childhood friends Foxygen. Fleming's music combines rock, soul and classic psychedelic influences.

Last year, he released the album "Everybody's A Good Dog," which OpenAir listeners voted as one of best album of 2015 in our listener poll.

Diane Coffee stopped by OpenAir before a concert at Lost Lake Lounge. The band performed three songs and Fleming spoke with Aaron 'Loki' Johnson about recording the new album, moving to Bloomington, Ind., and collaborating with the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels.

Fleming on his sophomore album as Diane Coffee:

"'Everybody's A Good Dog' is the album I always imagined I would make as my first record. That first record ('My Friend Fish') was just a series of demos ... this one, going into it, I actually knew ahead of time that I was putting out a record. I wanted to take my time and create a really lush soundscape and to work with as many friends as I possibly could."

On moving to Bloomington, Ind., to record the new album:

"I was coming from New York and I was really kind of depressed living there. I didn't like living in a big city. It just wasn't for me.

"Bloomington felt a lot like my hometown in Agoura (Calif.). I took to it like a duck to water."

Songs performed:

  • "Not That Easy"
  • "You're Mine"
  • "Mayflower"
