Shovels and Rope, Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, in the Indie 102.3 performance studio Tuesday Oct. 22 2019.

Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst have made music as Shovels & Rope for more than a decade. The South Carolina married duo's sound is rooted in classic Americana and country-folk. They add some fuzzed-out guitars and driving rock rhythms to the mix on their new album By Blood.

Shovels & Rope stopped into our studio before a show at Denver's Ogden Theatre. The band played some music from the new album and chatted with Jeremy Petersen.

Stream the session above.

Songs performed:

  • "I'm Coming Out"
  • "C'mon Utah!"
  • "Mississippi Nuthin'"
  • "Hammer"
