Award-winning journalist joins CPR News as health reporter

CENTENNIAL, Colo. August 4, 2014Colorado Public Radio News (CPR News) today announced that award-winning beat and investigative journalist John Daley has joined CPR News as its new health reporter, a position funded by the Colorado Health Foundation. Daley has more than a decade of experience as a reporter in Salt Lake City, covering stories for print, online, television and radio.

“John has extensive knowledge of both local and national health issues, having covered the national healthcare reform debate, Utah’s new health insurance exchange and more recently, the politics of healthcare here in Colorado,” said Kelley Griffin, CPR’s Vice President of News. “Given the increasing importance of healthcare in Colorado and nationally, we’re thrilled to be able to utilize John’s experience and dedicate his expertise exclusively to health coverage.”

Daley has been working for CPR News as a freelance contributor for the past year but will now exclusively cover health issues.

“Health is an issue that truly impacts everyone so it’s more important than ever to provide thorough coverage that’s understandable and accessible” said John Daley. “I look forward to exploring all the important health issues at play here in Colorado and uncovering stories that add to both the local and national health dialogue.”

Daley has won a number of journalism awards over the course of his career, including the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism from the University of Southern California and the Don Baker Award for Investigative Reporting from the Utah Society of Professional Journalists. He was a Knight Journalism Fellow and a Western Enterprise Reporting Fellow at Stanford University, as well as a Green Business Journalism Fellow at Arizona State University. Daley holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University.
