Live Broadcast and Concert Cap Off Debut Year
CENTENNIAL, Colo. – October 29, 2012 – When Colorado Public Radio (CPR) launched OpenAir 1340, its new-music station with a Colorado perspective, the goal was simple: serve music enthusiasts who want to explore and discover something new while showcasing today’s thriving generation of talented Colorado musicians. One year later, CPR’s newest station is going strong. For a truly exclusive look into the spirit and talents of the local music community, Colorado artists will join forces to celebrate OpenAir with live in-studio performances and a birthday concert.
“This is the perfect way to celebrate our first birthday,” said Mike Flanagan, OpenAir program director. “Since we launched, more than 80 bands, most of which have local ties, visited CPR’s Performance Studio to record their music and share insight with OpenAir hosts. We credit Colorado’s wealth of talented musicians as a key reason why OpenAir had such a fantastic first year.”
Live Super Sessions on OpenAir 1340 and openaircpr.org, Wednesday, October 31, 4 - 6 p.m. Each hour will feature a unique band line-up performing local and national covers as well as each others’ work. Featured musicians include solo artists and band members from Achille Lauro, The Swayback, Wheelchair Sports Camp and Varlet, to name a few. More details available at openaircpr.org.
The OpenAir Birthday Bash concert takes place on Friday, November 9, 8 p.m. at the Hi-Dive with performances by A. Tom Collins, Flashbulb Fires and Bonnie and the Beard. Tickets can be purchased for $5.00 at: hi-dive.com/event/173701/.
Looking ahead, OpenAir will continue to shine the spotlight on Colorado music through community events, live broadcasts and CPR Performance Studio recordings. Nineteen bands were featured on “Colorado Live and Local Vol. 1.” More to come on the second volume this November.
