The Colorado Symphony and Opera Colorado Performances to be Broadcast Statewide
CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Jan. 10, 2012 – Colorado Public Radio (CPR) introduces its live broadcast season for 2012, beginning Jan. 13. CPR will broadcast three full-length performances by The Colorado Symphony and three complete performances by Opera Colorado.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Colorado’s best classical music performances from the comfort of your own home,” said Sean Nethery, vice president of programming for CPR. “As part of CPR’s commitment to showcasing the state’s outstanding classical music community, we’ll continue to present our ongoing live broadcast season into the summer and early fall.”
Charley Samson hosts the first live broadcast on Friday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. from Boettcher Concert Hall, featuring The Colorado Symphony with special guest violinist Karen Gomyo. The program includes performances of Mussorgsky’s “Dawn on the Moskva River,” Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 featuring Gomyo, and “Pictures at an Exhibition.”
Continuing the series of live-radio events, CPR will broadcast the final performance of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., from the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
CPR classical music hosts will offer interviews and commentary with artists and performers during intermission of each broadcast. All six live broadcasts begin at the start of the program.
