Colorado Public Radio hires third arts position, completing new bureau

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Jan. 2, 2014 – Colorado Public Radio (CPR) announced that OpenAir host and producer Corey Jones has joined CPR’s new arts bureau and online arts hub as a reporter.

Jones will report on a wide range of topics, covering the full breadth and depth of Colorado’s arts and cultural community. As part of Colorado Public Radio’s new initiative to significantly increase arts coverage across the state, Jones’ work will be featured on air and online across all three of CPR’s news and music services.

“Corey is a respected voice in the Colorado music scene and brings a wealth of cultural knowledge to the bureau, including strong ties to the local music and film communities,” said Chloe Veltman, CPR’s arts editor. “His expertise will be invaluable as we launch the bureau and expand CPR’s multi-media efforts.”

Jones joined Colorado Public Radio in the fall of 2011 as one of the first hosts to sign on to OpenAir, CPR’s newest service that explores today’s music with a Colorado focus. He was also the host and creator of OpenAir’s mid-day show, “Mile High Noon,” which highlights emerging local artists. Jones came to OpenAir with both radio and journalism experience, having worked at Radio 1190 as a DJ, news and sports director and host of the weekly music program “The Local Shakedown.” He also contributed to the Boulder Daily Camera and Denver’s 5280 Magazine. Jones has a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in news-editorial from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

“Colorado offers so many opportunities to explore art and culture, something I’ve seen first-hand being immersed in the local music scene at OpenAir,” said Jones. “I’m looking forward to expanding that lens and telling the creative stories that are happening all across the state, from museum exhibits and theater, to concerts and new-music collaborations.”

Jones joins Arts Editor Chloe Veltman and fellow arts reporter Ange-Aimée Woods who together will help fuel CPR’s new multi-media arts bureau. The bureau is funded by a three-year, $900,000 grant from The Bonfils-Stanton Foundation.
