Colorado Public Radio names Monika Vischer new classical program director

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – April 26, 2013 – Classical Host Monika Vischer has been promoted to lead CPR Classical as program director. Vischer brings over 25 years of public radio experience to her new role, which includes overseeing the strategic direction of CPR’s classical service, expanding and strengthening local programming partnerships and developing a vision that more deeply engages listeners in the classical music repertoire.

“Monika is an industry veteran who has filled a variety of roles during her 22 years at CPR, including classical host, music director and feature producer,” said Doug Clifton, CPR’s vice president of music. “Her experience, mixed with her deep ties to Colorado’s classical community will be invaluable to CPR Classical’s future.”

"I look forward to building upon the success of CPR's classical service, which is a vital fixture of Colorado's classical community," said Vischer. "I'm also eager to help our listeners mine the many beauties and discoveries that exist in the classical music world, including the stories behind the music that often reflect something about both ourselves and the human condition."

During her more than two decades at Colorado Public Radio, Vischer helped launch “Colorado Spotlight” in the 1990s, which is CPR Classical’s flagship program featuring the state’s leading classical organizations through performances, interviews and live broadcasts. She also hosted and produced the Sunday morning program, “Sacred Classics,” during its early years. Vischer will continue to host middays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, in addition to leading CPR Classical as program director.

Outside of CPR, Vischer is the Board President of El Sistema Colorado, a non-profit she co-founded that’s focused on serving at-risk youth through an intensive ensemble music program. Vischer also sits on the advisory council for the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.
