CENTENNIAL, Colo. - July 26, 2011 – Colorado Public Radio (CPR) will present special coverage from the Aspen Music Festival this weekend, including a live broadcast featuring the festival’s newly appointed music director, Robert Spano, conducting Mahler's Symphony No. 5 and Barber's Violin Concerto, op. 14 with violinist Robert McDuffie.
Classical Music Host Monika Vischer will broadcast from the festival for a second consecutive year, providing an inside look at the event with daily stories and behind-the-scenes conversations with performing musicians from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday. She'll also host the live broadcast at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The performance begins at 4 p.m.
“Aspen is such an inspiring setting not only for concertgoers but for the musicians as well,” said Vischer. “World-class talent is drawn to this festival year after year partly because of the natural beauty of the venue. But I think the quality of music also has to do with Colorado's appreciation of the arts and the state's prominent classical music scene. And this year the musicians, staff and students are also excited about the arrival of Robert Spano.”
CPR's coverage will feature commentary from insiders about the festival's future, including discussions about what Spano will bring to the experience and a look at talent from the festival's youngest musicians, who are poised to redefine the classical music genre in years to come.
