CPR Classical presents Saturday ‘SummerFest’ concert series

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – June 21, 2013 – June 29-Aug. 18, Colorado Public Radio's (CPR) Classical service will air the 2013 Saturday “SummerFest” Concert Series with an expansive lineup of live and recorded performances from around the state. The annual summer series features Colorado’s top classical festivals, including Central City Opera, the Aspen Music Festival and Bravo! Vail.

“This is the largest ‘SummerFest’ line-up to date, and it will be the first time we’ve broadcasted a series of live concerts from Bravo! Vail, including the big three orchestras that visit each summer, led by their esteemed conductors,” said Monika Vischer, CPR’s classical program director. “Jaap van Zweden will lead the Dallas Symphony in DvoÅ™ák's New World Symphony, Yannick Nézet-Séguin returns to conduct The Philadelphia Orchestra in Verdi's Requiem and Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.”

The New York Philharmonic broadcast will feature their own beloved concertmaster, Glenn Dicterow, as violin soloist for Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Dicterow will play his last season as concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic in 2013-14, ending what will be a 34 year tenure. Other featured artists in the Summerfest broadcast series include: pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Garrick Ohlsson; vocal ensemble Cantus; flutist Alexa Still; young Metropolitan Opera sensation Eric Owens; and Bravo! Vail Artistic Director and pianist, Anne-Marie McDermott.
