New general assignment reporter expands Colorado Public Radio’s in-depth local news

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – May 18, 2011– Colorado Public Radio (CPR) continues its local news expansion with the hiring of general assignment reporter Ben Markus. In addition to his reporting duties, Markus will also produce segments for CPR’s daily local news interview program, “Colorado Matters.”

“Ben's a strong addition to CPR because of his experience covering issues like energy, the economy, education and politics in Hawaii and Alaska,” said Kelley Griffin, CPR's news director. “We're confident he'll approach these complex issues with fresh eyes to give listeners a deep understanding of significant developments in Colorado.”

Before CPR, Markus served as general assignment reporter for Hawaii Public Radio where he won the top prize for general news and feature reporting from the Hawaii Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He was also a Senior Fellow in NPR's Economic Training Project.

Prior to his position at Hawaii Public Radio, Markus worked in the newsrooms of KUAC-FM/Alaska One in Fairbanks, and Capital Public Radio in Sacramento, Calif.
