A Musical Moment in Downtown Denver

Listen Now

If you’re hanging out in downtown Denver Saturday afternoon, you might see and hear the premiere of a performance work of art. It’s called Playing Apart. That has a double meaning. Ninety members of the Bear Creek High School marching band will each play a part, their own individual part, of the instrumental performance. And they’ll walk apart from one another, each alone on a designated route. Denver’s Public Art Program commissioned the work. It'll take place at 1:30 p.m. and be repeated at 4 p.m. It’s being orchestrated by performance artists Lee Walton of North Carolina and Jon Rubin of Pittsburgh. Rubin spoke to CPR's Pat Mack.
