Senator Mark Udall, a Democrat from Colorado, has a new morning routine. Just about every day, he stands on the floor of the US Senate and delivers roughly the same speech in support of the wind energy production tax credit. The PTC is a federal subsidy to the wind industry. And it expires at the end of the year. Colorado is ninth among states in wind energy production; around 6,000 people here work in the industry. More than 20 speeches from Udall, yet so far, Congress hasn’t renewed the credit. Not everyone is on board with extending it. Congressman Doug Lamborn, a Republican from Colorado Springs, for one. So, what does the uncertainty around the PTC mean for the wind energy business? Matt Kaplan is senior wind energy analyst for IHS Emerging Energy Research, and he speaks to host Ryan Warner.
