The 2012 Olympic Games will get underway just two weeks from today in London. Colorado Public Radio is looking at our state’s ties to the Olympics in a series called “Colorado Competes.” Today, we’ll talk about Olympians who’ve gotten their start in the military. Some of these athletes are part of an intense training program based at Fort Carson, just outside of Colorado Springs. It’s called the Army World Class Athlete Program and this year, it’s sending a record seven athletes from the program to London to compete. CPR’s Andrea Dukakis went to the Olympic Training Center to speak with one of them. Sergeant First Class Keith Sanderson is a rapid fire pistol shooter. We also speak with Captain John Harmeling, who heads up the Army's program.
