The City of Denver has taken a lot of heat lately for not moving fast enough on affordable housing. Tensions boiled over into protests last year, for example, when an Ink! coffee shop in the historically black neighborhood of Five Points made a joke about gentrification. Not long after that, a survey showed 94 percent of Denverites agree that the lack of affordable homes -- either to buy or to rent -- is a serious problem.
That survey was done by a relatively new advocacy group called All In Denver. Cathy Alderman, one of its board members, and a vice president at The Colorado Coalition For The Homeless, talks to Colorado Matters about the city’s new proposal to generate millions more dollars for its affordable housing fund.
