Colorado State University's athletics department has been at the center of some recent controversy, including plans for a new football stadium. The price tag is estimated at roughly $240 million dollars. The school has also expanded its athletic department over the past few years.

Both the stadium project, and the growth of the department in Fort Collins, was spurred by Jack Graham, the former athletics director. Graham was fired in August of last year, which came as a surprise to many.

Parker will take over as athletics director at a time when there are major questions facing college sports, such as whether athletes should be paid and the health issues linked to concussions in some sports. He comes to Colorado from Texas Tech University, where he was the deputy athletics director.

He spoke with Ryan Warner before the CSU football spring game, which takes place on Saturday, April 18.
