Malachi Haynes of Aurora joined his local Boys and Girls Club when he was 6 years old. Last month, he was named the organization's National Youth of the Year. He received a $100,000 scholarship and will serve as a national spokesperson.
The CSU freshman talked to Colorado Matters about his history with the Boys and Girls Club. Haynes created a study program called Double Trouble, in which younger children struggling to read got to play for an hour if they read for an hour. All five kids in Double Trouble jumped a grade level in reading.
