From the old 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust to today's spread offenses, Chris Brown and Scott Yates have helped guide the lives of thousands of high school football players, and won a few games along the way.
Brown, of West Grand High School in Kremmling, is Colorado's all-time leader in wins with 308; that's one more than Yates, who coaches at Kent Denver in Englewood.
Both men have a connection with the previous record-holder, Pat Panek, who coached from 1939-1977. Panek was on the opposing sideline when Brown, then at Limon, coached the first game of his career. Yates' father, Dick, coached against Panek.
In 40 years of coaching, Brown has won four state championships; Yates has won three; both men say they have no intention of leaving the game any time soon. They spoke with Colorado Matters host Nathan Heffel.
