Universities often grapple with the academic performance of student athletes. This summer, the University of Colorado at Boulder's football and men's basketball teams were penalized for failing to meet the NCAA's academic performance standards. As a result, CU lost five academic scholarships in football and one in men's basketball. David Clough is the University's Faculty Athletic Representative. He acts as a liason between the school's student athletes and the faculty. He also is a professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the university. Clough says the University knew the penalties were coming. Now staff are working to give student athletes more academic support.
