When Colorado filmmaker donnie betts met Oscar Brown Jr., he was amazed. Here was a man who had helped shape American music, radio, and social consciousness. He'd written lyrics to jazz tunes like “Afro Blue” and “Work Song.” And yet nobody had captured his life on film. Betts has fixed that. His documentary about Brown is called, Music Is My Life, Politics My Mistress: The Story of Oscar Brown Junior#eI#. Critics have praised it. The #I#Chicago Tribune called the movie eloquent, unflinching and exquisitely edited. It will be shown Saturday night at 9 on KBDI Channel 12. betts spoke with Dan Meyers last May. (Morning broadcast only.) (First broadcast May 9, 2006.)
